Video participatory and training projects
Projects are tailor-made to suit the needs and requirements of clients and groups we are working with.
Though the final result, usually a short 8-15 minute video or dvd, is very important, for participatory projects the most important thing is usually the process the group goes through. We can also offer a level one or level two OCN qualification in Basic Group Video Production with our training packages.
The length can vary – but is usually 6-10 days long. The days can be in a block or spread over several months, for example doing one day a week. Holiday and weekend projects are often run.
A wide range of courses have been devised - some are aimed more at developing confidence, motivation and self-esteem; others provide specific skills and knowledge about different elements of the filmmaking process.

Mediabox – with a major grant from Mediabox, Soap Box was able to work with 4 different youth groups from disadvantaged areas in L8 and Huyton. Most of the projects were about 8 days long. Link to clip.

Toxteth TV – Soap Box has established a very good working relationship with Toxteth TV. One of the major projects run in partnership with TTV was Wall Talk. This was with 3 groups of young people including asylum seekers and homeless people. Link to clip.

Vintage – Soap Box has trained and supported a group of older filmmakers. The last project was a 30 minute documentary looking at people that started in the music industry in the 40s and 50s and who are still playing, and the audiences that continue to listen and dance to them. Link to clip.

Tales – Soap Box worked with a group of excluded young women at Holly Lodge School to produce an experimental piece screened during Liverpool’s 2008 Tales Project. Link to clip.
